My dad turned 60 recently and we threw him a surprise party. Initially we had asked my dad about throwing a party and he said absolutely not! So my mom and I a few months ago started planning a surprise one. I still can't believe that my dad had no idea, but he said that if he did he would have made up some meeting or something to get away. In fact, a few people came over early and my brother started talking to my dad about escape routes. My poor dad was confused and was even more confused when more and more people started coming over to wish him a happy birthday, especially when the kids in the neighborhood had already wished him a happy birthday earlier that day at church. He had no idea how all these people knew it was his birthday. One person that came over early said that my dad was standing in front of the door and was not going to budge one bit to let her in. It was about this point that he started realizing something was up. Brad, Kim, Mason and I had to run to go get the cake and ice cream that were at the neighbors. Some of the people that came first helped us with the chairs. It was kind of off to a rough start but after that things went well. I thought it was great how many people kept the secret. The kids were really cute too. They let everyone know that "the good stuff" was inside.
We started out the night with our typical sunday dinner and then we did a little cake and ice cream so my dad wouldn't be suspicious.

My dad is now mad at me because he found out afterwards that it was my idea. But it was worth it to surprise him. It was a fun party!
